Lombok Diving: Who We Are & How We Operate
This site, LombokDiving.com, is operated by Komodo Luxury — an Indonesian liveaboard specialist founded in 2015, part of Juara Holding Group Limited, licensed under KBLI 79120 and based in Denpasar, Bali.
We own and operate a small fleet of luxury Indonesian phinisi liveaboards, including:
- Komodo Signature – luxury phinisi for scheduled and private dive charters
- Komodo Prestige – luxury phinisi for tailored itineraries across Komodo and eastern Indonesia
Komodo Luxury has received TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards for 2025 and 2026. Those awards are based on verified guest reviews across our Komodo and Raja Ampat operations.
From Lombok, my role as Cruise Director is simple:
- Match your certification, experience and expectations to the right trip
- Plan safe, seasonally smart itineraries across Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, Komodo and Raja Ampat
- Run smooth operations on board Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige
We focus on real diving conditions — currents, seasons, marine life patterns — not marketing fantasy. Wildlife is wild: mantas, hammerheads or whale sharks are never guaranteed, and advanced sites need the right certification and comfort in current.

Day Diving vs Liveaboard
Lombok offers both shore-based day diving and multi-day cruises. Here’s a simple comparison:
| Option | Best For | Dive Range | Pros | Considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lombok & Gili day diving | New divers, training, casual holiday dives | Primarily Gili reefs, some south Lombok options | Flexible, family friendly, easy logistics | Limited to sites within day-boat range and local conditions |
| Lombok–Komodo liveaboard | Certified divers wanting variety & adventure | Lombok, Gilis, Sumbawa, Komodo National Park | Max time underwater, remote sites, flexible scheduling | Set departure dates; need comfort living on board |
| Komodo-only liveaboard (Labuan Bajo–Labuan Bajo) | Experienced divers focused on high-energy sites | North, central and south Komodo depending on trip | More dives inside the park; short transfers | Requires separate domestic travel to Labuan Bajo |
| Raja Ampat liveaboard | Intermediate–advanced divers seeking biodiversity | Central/north/south Raja Ampat depending on cruise | Biggest variety of reefs & fish biomass | Longer travel; typically higher trip budgets |
If you’re unsure which fits your level and schedule, message us on WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875 with:
• Your certification level
• Number of logged dives
• Rough travel dates and trip length
We’ll recommend concrete options, not a generic list.

FAQs: Lombok Diving & Liveaboards
Is Lombok good for diving?
Yes. Lombok and the Gili Islands offer warm water, generally easy conditions and plenty of turtles, making them a strong choice for both new and experienced divers. The Gilis are ideal for relaxed reef dives and training, while south Lombok sites like Belongas Bay offer much more advanced, exposed diving in the right season. We often recommend starting in Lombok to refresh skills before heading to Komodo or Raja Ampat.
Is Lombok diving suitable for beginners or families?
Gili Islands diving and snorkeling suit beginners and families well, with calm, accessible reefs. The Komodo crossing and its current-swept sites are better for certified, more experienced divers. Mixed groups can split activities — some diving Komodo’s stronger sites while others snorkel or do gentler reef dives. Share ages and experience levels so Komodo Luxury can balance the itinerary.
Do I need to be a certified diver?
For most Lombok and Komodo dive sites, yes — an Open Water certification or higher. Several Komodo sites have current and are better suited to Advanced or experienced divers. Non-certified travellers can often join discover-dive or snorkeling options on the same trip. Tell Komodo Luxury your certification level and logged dives so the itinerary is matched to your experience.
What dive sites does a Lombok-to-Komodo trip cover?
Lombok-area diving centres on the Gili Islands and northwest reefs. The Komodo leg targets sites such as Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, Crystal Rock and manta aggregation areas like Karang Makassar (Manta Point). Exact sites depend on tides, current and weather on the day, so itineraries list likely sites rather than a fixed guarantee for each one.
When is the best time to dive Lombok and Komodo?
Diving is possible year-round in both regions, but conditions and marine life focus change with the seasons. Lombok and the Gilis see diveable conditions most of the year, with visibility influenced by local weather. Some advanced Lombok sites like Belongas Bay are typically targeted in calmer, drier months. Komodo is effectively year-round, with different times favouring certain areas or manta activity. Tell us your possible dates and we’ll outline what to expect then instead of giving a generic “best month.”
What conditions and currents should I expect in Komodo?
Komodo is known for strong, sometimes unpredictable currents that bring nutrient-rich water and big marine life but demand respect. Sites like Castle Rock and Crystal Rock can run fast, so reef hooks and drift technique are common. Water is generally warm in the north and cooler in the south. Briefings, guide ratios and site choice are matched to current and your experience.
How many dives per day on a liveaboard?
A typical Komodo liveaboard day offers three to four dives, including the option of a dusk or night dive, with surface intervals, briefings and meals between. The actual schedule flexes around current windows, tides at sites like Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, and the group’s certification level. Your dive guide finalises the daily plan on board based on conditions.
Can I dive Lombok and Komodo in one trip?
Absolutely. Many of our guests combine a few days of Lombok and Gili diving with a 6–10 day liveaboard into Komodo, or join a Lombok–Komodo cruise that starts near Lombok and ends in Labuan Bajo. You can also dive Lombok first and then connect via domestic flights or boats to a Komodo-only liveaboard. We’ll help you choose the route that fits your schedule and experience.
Can beginners join a liveaboard from Lombok to Komodo?
Open Water divers can join some Lombok–Komodo itineraries, but we strongly recommend recent experience and comfort in the water first. Certain Komodo dives involve moderate to strong currents, so we plan site choices and groupings carefully. Newer divers may start with a few days around the Gili Islands, possibly complete an Advanced course, and then join an itinerary with a focus on appropriate sites. Safety and enjoyment come first; we’ll always be honest if a particular trip is too advanced for your current level.
How long are the diving packages?
Options run from single-day Gili dives to liveaboard cruises of three to eight nights crossing from Lombok toward Komodo and Flores. Most divers choosing the Lombok–Komodo combo book four to seven nights to fit in the marquee Komodo sites with sensible surface intervals. Komodo Luxury can extend or shorten the route around your travel dates.
Where do trips depart from and end?
Day diving departs from Lombok and the Gili Islands. Liveaboard combos commonly cruise from the Lombok side and disembark in Labuan Bajo, Flores (or run the reverse), since Labuan Bajo is the gateway to Komodo National Park. Komodo Luxury arranges airport and harbour transfers; confirm your exact embarkation and disembarkation points in the final itinerary.
Can you combine Lombok diving with Komodo and Raja Ampat?
Yes. Komodo Luxury curates multi-region itineraries linking Lombok, Komodo and Flores, and can extend toward Raja Ampat as a separate liveaboard leg. Because Raja Ampat sits far east of Komodo, that combination is built as a longer, higher-budget custom trip with its own flights and boat, quoted individually rather than as a fixed off-the-shelf package.
How much does a Lombok diving package cost?
As of June 2026, indicative per-person pricing runs from roughly USD 700 for short Gili-and-reef combos to USD 12,000 for premium multi-week charters, with most Lombok–Komodo liveaboard packages landing around USD 1,800 to USD 5,000. Final cost depends on boat, cabin category, season and group size. Komodo Luxury quotes each trip individually. Prices subject to change.
What drives the price of a Lombok diving trip?
Four main factors: boat and cabin category (shared vs. private en-suite, standard vs. premium phinisi), trip length, season (peak July–September costs more), and group size. Park fees, fuel, certified guides and full board on liveaboards also shift the number. Day diving around the Gilis sits far below a multi-day Komodo crossing.
What is included in a Lombok diving package?
Standard inclusions are certified dive guides, tanks, weights and boat transfers. Liveaboard combos add cabin accommodation, full board, and typically national park fee handling. Equipment rental (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, computer), nitrox, alcohol, and flights are usually extra. Each itinerary lists its own inclusions, so confirm the exact line items in your written quote before booking.
Are park fees and permits included?
Komodo National Park charges entry, conservation and activity fees that change periodically and are often quoted separately from the dive package. Many liveaboard combos bundle park fee handling into the price, but not all do. Always check whether park fees, ranger fees and any port charges are inside your quote or payable locally, as of your travel date.
What boats are used for Lombok–Komodo liveaboards?
Komodo Luxury charters and curates traditional wooden phinisi and modern liveaboards through vetted partner operators rather than owning every vessel. Cabin configurations range from shared twins to private en-suite master cabins, with dive decks, tank stations and tender boats for site access. Specs vary by vessel, so each quote names the exact boat, cabin layout and capacity offered for your dates.
How do I book a Lombok liveaboard or Komodo cruise?
Contact Komodo Luxury directly via WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875, email [email protected], or use plan your trip on this site. Share your dates, number of travellers, certification levels and approximate budget. We’ll match you with suitable scheduled departures on Komodo Signature or Komodo Prestige, or design a private charter itinerary. Once you’re happy with the plan, a deposit secures your booking and we support you with logistics before you travel.
How do I book and what is the deposit?
Contact Komodo Luxury by WhatsApp (+62 811-3823-875) or email ([email protected]) with your dates, group size and certification level. They return a written quote naming the boat, inclusions and current park fees. Deposit terms, balance schedules and cancellation policy depend on the vessel and partner operator and are confirmed in that quote before any payment.
