Good to know: Lombok Diving is operated by Komodo Luxury, a real award-winning Indonesian liveaboard operator (TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice 2022–2025, founded 2015, part of Juara Holding Group Limited). Dive-site depths, seasons and conditions are indicative and vary; advanced sites such as Belongas Bay (hammerheads) and the strong-current sites of Komodo need the right certification. Marine life — mantas, hammerheads, whale sharks — is seasonal and wild, and can never be guaranteed. Prices are indicative ranges, by quote, and vary by season, vessel, cabin and itinerary. Enquiries and booking via WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875 and sales@komodoluxury.com.
A lombok liveaboard is a multi-day dive cruise that starts or ends in Lombok or the Gili Islands and uses a fully equipped dive yacht as your floating base to reach remote sites around Sumbawa and Komodo that are impractical by day boat. Lombok liveaboard diving links the reefs and walls you know from the Gilis and south Lombok with current-swept channels, manta sites and pinnacles across eastern Indonesia.
Lombok Liveaboard Diving with Lombok Diving & Komodo Luxury
I’m Komang Mahendra, Dive Cruise Director for Lombok Diving and Komodo Luxury. Lombok Diving is the Lombok and Gili Islands specialist; Komodo Luxury is the Indonesian liveaboard operator behind this site and our cruises.
From Lombok we convert confident island divers into liveaboard guests across Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, Komodo, Labuan Bajo and Raja Ampat. We plan trips around season, currents and your certification level, not just a marketing map.
This site and all liveaboard operations are run by Komodo Luxury — an Indonesian company founded in 2015, part of Juara Holding Group Limited, licensed under KBLI 79120 and based in Denpasar, Bali. We operate our own luxury phinisi fleet, including the Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige, and have been recognised with TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards from 2022 through 2025 for consistent guest feedback on safety and service. We do not broker random boats; we place you on vessels we know and operate.
From Lombok we run:
- Lombok–Komodo liveaboards (typically 5–10 days, one-way or return)
- Bali–Komodo and Komodo–Bali liveaboards (connecting easily via fast boat from the Gilis or Senggigi)
- Labuan Bajo–Labuan Bajo Komodo itineraries for guests who prefer to fly directly into the park
- Seasonal Raja Ampat cruises for divers ready to step from Lombok reefs to world-class Papua biodiversity
Pricing is always by quote, because it changes with cabin category, season and exact route. As a broad guide (last verified June 2026): most luxury Indonesian phinisi trips in our fleet run from roughly mid–US$300s to high–US$500s per person per night, with private charters priced individually depending on guest count and itinerary complexity.
If you already know your travel window and experience level, you can plan your trip now or message our team on WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or email sales@komodoluxury.com. We’ll match you to the right route and boat before you commit.
Why Start a Liveaboard from Lombok or the Gilis?
Lombok and the Gili Islands are one of Indonesia’s most logical gateways to Komodo and eastern Indonesia. Many divers first log their warm-water dives and courses here, then realise how limited day-boat range is once they want more challenging sites and big pelagics.
Reach Remote Sites Day Boats Cannot
A liveaboard from Lombok turns overnight crossings into extra dives instead of lost days on ferries and transfers. On a typical Lombok–Komodo cruise you can reach:
- East Lombok and Gili Kondo area – quiet reefs and macro sand for warm-up dives and check dives away from Gili traffic.
- Sumbawa coast – lesser-dived walls, macro and occasional pelagics that are effectively out of range for Lombok day boats.
- Komodo National Park – central and northern sectors for mantas, schooling fish and healthy reef systems.
- On longer itineraries, south Komodo / south Rinca – cooler, nutrient-rich water with rich invertebrate life and more challenging conditions.
This eastward progression means you’re diving as you travel, not burning holidays in airports or on ferries between islands.
Lombok as a Natural Training Ground
Lombok and the Gilis offer relatively forgiving conditions for beginner and intermediate divers, plus a clear ladder to more advanced sites:
- Gili Islands – popular for Open Water, Advanced and Nitrox training.
- North and East Lombok – slightly more current and some deeper reefs for intermediate divers.
- Belongas Bay (southwest Lombok) – exposed pinnacles and seasonal hammerhead encounters for experienced divers only.
This gradient is ideal if you want to gain comfort and experience around Lombok before committing to currents and drifts in Komodo.
Flexible Logistics: Gilis, Senggigi, Bali and Labuan Bajo
Because we operate both day diving around Lombok and multi-day cruises, we can tailor the start and end points of your trip to your flights and holiday plan. Common options:
- Train skills and log dives from the Gilis, then board a lombok dive boat for a full liveaboard crossing toward Komodo.
- Fast boat from Bali to the Gilis or Senggigi, spend a few days, then connect to a Bali–Komodo or Lombok–Komodo liveaboard.
- Fly directly to Labuan Bajo and meet our boat there if your schedule is tight, then add Lombok and the Gilis before or after.
Our Liveaboard Fleet: Komodo Signature & Komodo Prestige
All Lombok liveaboard diving on this site runs on Indonesian phinisi yachts operated by Komodo Luxury. Our two primary boats for Lombok–Komodo routes are:
- Komodo Signature
- A luxury wooden phinisi with ensuite cabins, air-conditioned salon, sun decks and a dedicated dive deck. Built and maintained for comfort-focused dive cruising across Komodo and eastern Indonesia.
- Komodo Prestige
- A premium sister phinisi with similar comfort standards, spacious cabins and full dive facilities, often allocated to private charters or longer exploratory routes depending on season and demand.
On both vessels you can expect:
- Cabins: Air-conditioned, hotel-style bedding, ensuite or private bathrooms depending on category.
- Dive deck: Individual stations, gear storage, rinse tanks and shaded kitting-up area designed for 3–4 dives per day.
- Compressors & gas: Onboard compressors and Nitrox availability on many departures (confirm when enquiring).
- Tenders: Rigid or semi-rigid tenders for safe drop-offs and pickups in currents, and for beach visits.
- Power & facilities: Generators for 24-hour electricity, charging stations for cameras and devices, and freshwater showers.
- Full board: All meals, snacks, tea/coffee and drinking water included; dietary requirements discussed in advance.
We do not list every cabin detail here because layout and allocation can change after refits. When you contact us for a quote we send the current deck plan, cabin types and exact inclusions for the specific departure.
Typical Lombok–Komodo Liveaboard Route
Every itinerary is shaped around tides, moon phase, your experience level and time available. Below is a representative outline of a 7–8 day Lombok–Komodo cruise. Think of it as a framework rather than a fixed promise.
Day 1: Lombok or Gilis – Check Dives & Gear Setup
- Pickup from your Gili or Lombok accommodation or harbour.
- Board in north or east Lombok, safety briefing and gear setup.
- One or two relaxed reef dives used as check dives. Typically shallow to moderate depth with light current, ideal for weighting and comfort checks.
- Evening cruise east toward Sumbawa.
Day 2–3: Sumbawa Reefs and Walls
Sumbawa’s north coast and surrounding islands see a fraction of the dive traffic of Komodo but can deliver excellent reef structure, macro life and pelagics in the right conditions. We use these days to:
- Build current-management skills progressively: gentle drifts before stronger flows.
- Introduce wall, slope and reef-topography variety.
- Offer macro or wide-angle options depending on your interests.
Surface intervals may include beach stops or short hikes, depending on anchorage and tide.
Day 4–6: Komodo National Park – Central & North
As we enter Komodo National Park, currents become a central planning factor. We choose sites according to tides and your capacity as a group. Expect:
- Drift dives along reef slopes and walls with schooling fish, soft and hard corals.
- Manta cleaning and feeding stations on appropriate itineraries and seasons; sightings are common in certain months but never guaranteed.
- Seamounts and pinnacles with stronger current, reserved for divers who have demonstrated comfort and control in milder drifts.
- Protected bays or coral gardens used as afternoon or night-dive sites with macro and nocturnal life.
On some cruises we include a Komodo dragon trek on Komodo or Rinca Island, coordinated with park rangers and dependent on park regulations and your interests.
Day 7–8: Additional Komodo Diving & Disembark in Labuan Bajo
Most Lombok–Komodo or Bali–Komodo liveaboards end in Labuan Bajo, Flores, with a half or full morning of diving on the last day depending on your flight schedule and no-fly time requirements.
- Final 2–3 dives in central or northern Komodo, usually chosen for easier conditions to end the trip calmly.
- Afternoon cruise into Labuan Bajo harbour.
- Overnight on board or disembark same day, then transfer to hotel or airport.
Longer 9–10+ day crossings may add more Sumbawa sites, extra time in Komodo, or a loop into south Komodo if conditions, moon phase and group experience make it safe.
How Many Days Should You Book?
Part of my role is to match your ambitions with realistic time frames. The table below compares common options for a liveaboard from Lombok or Bali toward Komodo:
| Trip Length | Typical Route | Ideal For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5–6 days | Short Lombok–Komodo or Bali–Komodo; more time in Komodo, fewer Sumbawa stops | Divers on tight holidays with some prior drift experience | Efficient but compressed; fewer chances for weather or current flexibility. |
| 7–8 days | Standard Lombok–Komodo or Bali–Komodo crossing | Most guests; mix of experience levels with at least Advanced Open Water recommended | Good balance of travel days, Sumbawa variety and core Komodo highlights. |
| 9–10+ days | Extended Lombok–Komodo or Bali–Komodo, more Sumbawa and potential south Komodo | Experienced divers and photographers wanting more time and flexibility | Better odds for multiple encounters with seasonal pelagics; still no guarantees. |
If you’re unsure, send us your dates and experience via plan your trip or WhatsApp and we’ll suggest a specific departure and duration rather than forcing you into a template.
Certification Levels & Experience: Who a Lombok Liveaboard Suits
We are honest about what you need for safety and enjoyment. Liveaboard diving from Lombok into Komodo is not only about certification cards; it’s about your real comfort in currents, controlled descents and buoyancy near reef.
Minimum Recommended Certification
- Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) recommended for most Lombok–Komodo itineraries. This gives you exposure to deeper dives and navigation before stronger currents.
- Open Water with recent experience may be accepted on some trips that avoid the strongest sites and focus on gentler reefs; we would adjust the dive plan and may limit site choice.
- Enriched Air/Nitrox strongly advised for 3–4 dives per day schedules, improving no-decompression limits and overall comfort.
Experience in Currents
Komodo is known for currents created by water moving between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. On a liveaboard from Lombok we build you up, but we will not put you into advanced current sites if your skills or comfort are not there.
For the more demanding dives, we look for:
- Comfort with negative entries when required (descending promptly, in control).
- Ability to maintain position on a reef hook or in mild down-current situations with a guide’s support.
- Demonstrated buoyancy and situational awareness in previous drift dives during the cruise.
Some famous current sites in Komodo are reserved only for guests who clearly show these skills during preceding days. This is not gatekeeping; it is safety management.
Belongas Bay & Other Advanced Options
From Lombok, some guests want to add very advanced dives such as Belongas Bay, known for its exposed pinnacles and, in the right season, hammerhead sharks. We treat these as separate, clearly advanced modules:
- Typically best from around July to September, influenced by seasonal factors; even then, hammerhead sightings are never guaranteed.
- Sites can have strong surface chop, surge and rapid current changes.
- We require solid recent experience in similar conditions and reserve the right to redirect you to safer alternatives on the day.
If you’re drawn to these sites, tell us early. We may recommend specific preparatory dives around Lombok or in earlier parts of the cruise.
Seasonality: When to Book a Lombok Liveaboard
Indonesia is a year-round diving destination, but each region has better windows for visibility, sea conditions and specific wildlife. Below is an overview for Lombok and Komodo. All timing is general; conditions vary by year.
Lombok & the Gilis
- April–November: Generally drier with more stable surface conditions. Popular for Gili courses and fun dives, and a good window to combine with a Lombok–Komodo cruise.
- December–March: Wetter season with more rainfall; diving is still possible, but there may be more swell on some exposed sites.
Komodo National Park
- April–June: Often a sweet spot for good visibility and active marine life. Fewer boats than peak high season.
- July–September: Drier, busier months. Winds can be stronger in some areas, influencing where we choose to dive.
- October–early December: Typically calmer seas in many parts of the park and productive underwater conditions.
- Late December–March: Some operators reduce or relocate operations due to wind and rain patterns; we adjust routes accordingly, or focus on other regions like Raja Ampat.
Marine Life Seasonality
Many guests ask about mantas, hammerheads and whale sharks. A few key points:
- Manta rays: Komodo mantas can be seen in multiple months, with certain sites and seasons more productive. Even in “good” periods, sightings are never guaranteed.
- Hammerhead sharks: Around Lombok, Belongas Bay pinnacles see their better hammerhead months generally mid-year, but these are wild animals at depth and sightings are variable.
- Whale sharks: Indonesia has known aggregation areas, often around fishery sites or specific bays, more commonly on certain Sumbawa and eastern routes. Any encounter on a Lombok–Komodo crossing is a bonus, not a promise.
What a Day on a Lombok Liveaboard Looks Like
Roughly, a typical full diving day aboard Komodo Signature or Komodo Prestige might look like this (timings shift slightly with sunrise and sites):
- 06:30–07:00 – Light breakfast and first dive briefing. Conditions reviewed against tide tables and observations.
- 07:30–09:00 – First dive from the tender. Drift, wall or seamount depending on plan and your level.
- 09:00–11:30 – Full breakfast, log dives, rest and move to the next site.
- 11:30–13:00 – Second dive. Often a reef or channel dive with schooling fish.
- 13:00–15:30 – Lunch and extended surface interval. Time for naps, reading, camera prep or a beach visit if the schedule allows.
- 15:30–17:00 – Third dive. Sometimes a slightly gentler site or macro focus.
- 18:30–19:30 – Optional night dive on suitable days, usually on a protected reef or sandy bay.
- Evening – Dinner, briefings for the next day, sharing photos and reviewing conditions.
We adjust the number of dives for long crossings, weather changes and group fatigue. Safety, decompression limits and your real energy levels take priority over hitting a fixed number.
Lombok to Komodo Packages & Extensions
Because Lombok Diving is rooted in the Gilis and Lombok, we can bundle your liveaboard with shore-based diving and training:
Gili Islands Pre-Trip

Pricing: How Much Does a Lombok Liveaboard Cost?
Costs vary with vessel, cabin, length, season and whether you join a scheduled departure or charter the whole yacht. For our own fleet and regular Lombok–Komodo schedules (last verified June 2026):
- Scheduled luxury phinisi trips: Typically from the mid–US$300s to high–US$500s per person per night, based on twin-share cabins. Higher for premium suites or very peak dates.
- Private charters: Priced for the entire boat per night. Total ranges depend heavily on group size and itinerary complexity; a full-yacht charter can be cost-effective for larger groups compared with individual cabins.
- Extras: Park fees, fuel surcharges, rental equipment, Nitrox, domestic flights and transfers are usually itemised separately in your quote.
We quote in detail once you tell us:
- Preferred dates and flexibility.
- Number of divers and non-divers.
- Certifications and approximate logged dives.
- Whether you prefer joining an existing group or arranging a private charter.

Safety, Briefings and Environmental Standards
Running liveaboards from Lombok through Sumbawa into Komodo requires consistent safety discipline. On every cruise we focus on:
Dive Planning & Briefings
- Briefings before every dive that cover expected current direction and strength, maximum planned depth, minimum gas, lost-buddy procedures and emergency pickup signals.
- Use of surface marker buoys (SMBs) by guides and, for experienced divers, by individuals.
- Staggered entry and exit procedures to reduce confusion in current.
Equipment & Redundancy
- Oxygen kits on board and on tenders, with trained crew.
- Communication systems between tenders and mothership.
- Spare gear on board for common equipment failures.
Environmental Conduct
- No touching or chasing of animals, including mantas, sharks and turtles.
- No collecting of souvenirs from the reef.
- Buoyancy checks and coaching to prevent contact with corals.
We also adapt the dive plan if conditions change rapidly. Some advanced sites may be substituted last minute for safer alternatives if currents, swell or visibility reach limits we consider unsafe for the group’s actual ability, regardless of the original plan.
How to Choose the Right Lombok Liveaboard Itinerary
If you’re reading this page, you’re already ahead of most divers who only see Komodo as a point-to-point flight. To refine your choice:
- Be honest about your experience: Number of dives, last dive date, real comfort in current and low visibility.
- Tell us what matters most: Big animals, photography, specific sites, training, quieter bays, or a mix.
- Accept that wildlife is wild: Mantas, hammerheads and whale sharks are unpredictable; number of dives and seasonal planning improve chances but never guarantee a sighting.
- Prioritise safety over famous names: Some branded “bucket list” sites may not be appropriate for your group on a given day. A safer, less-hyped site with healthy reef and fish is always better than a risky drop in unsuitable conditions.
My role is to help you align the season, your skills and our fleet’s schedule. Share the details, and we’ll propose a route that fits, not just a brochure.

FAQs: Lombok Liveaboard Diving
What is a Lombok liveaboard?
A Lombok liveaboard is a multi-day dive trip that uses a yacht as your base, typically starting or ending around Lombok or the Gili Islands and travelling east toward Sumbawa and Komodo. You sleep, eat and dive from the boat, allowing access to remote reefs, channels and islands that are too far for Lombok day boats.
How many days do I need for a liveaboard from Lombok to Komodo?
Most divers choose 7–8 days for a Lombok–Komodo crossing, which balances Sumbawa exploration with several full days in Komodo National Park. Shorter 5–6 day trips focus more tightly on Komodo with fewer Sumbawa stops, while 9–10+ day itineraries give more flexibility and additional sites.
What certification do I need for Lombok liveaboard diving?
Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) is recommended for most Lombok–Komodo routes, plus recent experience in drift or current-affected diving. Stronger-current and advanced sites are reserved for divers who show the necessary control and comfort during earlier dives. Some gentler itineraries may accept Open Water divers, with site choices adapted accordingly.
What is included onboard a Lombok dive boat liveaboard?
On our phinisi liveaboards (Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige) you can expect accommodation in air-conditioned cabins, all meals and snacks, guided diving with tanks and weights, use of tenders, and standard safety equipment. Park fees, rental equipment, Nitrox, flights and some transfers are typically additional; we outline all inclusions and exclusions clearly in your quote.
How do I book or get a quote for a Lombok liveaboard?
Contact our team with your dates, number of guests and diving experience. You can use the plan your trip page, WhatsApp us on +62 811-3823-875 or email sales@komodoluxury.com. We’ll propose suitable dates, boats and itineraries with itemised pricing and help you choose the right option before confirming your reservation.
